PRIVATE VIEW LAUNCH  DAY & WEEKEND CELEBRATION

BELONGINGS: Windrush 75 Anniversary – Art Installation

Private Launch (Free to invited Guests) :  11am - 12pm, Saturday 24th June  (Reception from 10.30am)

Public Viewing ( Free to General Public) :  12pm, Saturday 24th June - 6pm, Sunday 25th June.

This exciting sound and art installation commemorate and celebrates the people of the Windrush Generation and the talents of descendants who have contributed to British society over the past 75 years. You will experience an installation which offers a unique opportunity to deepen the specific discussion on how the presence of the Windrush generation and their descendants has shaped the recent history of Britain. Join us for a full programme based on the themes of movement of people, identity and belonging conveyed through filmed interviews with elders, reflections from descendants, sound, song, dance and visual projections. There will also be a community film segment on the theme of migration, DJ sessions, vintage cars display and food stalls.

The weekend will also include Tilbury Bridge Walkway of Memories a site-specific art installation, which comprises of images, documents, audio recordings and memorabilia adorning the bridge that passengers of the Empire Windrush first walked across as they entered Britain in 1948.

Please Note:

This installation is only available to view during the weekend of Saturday 24 - Sunday 25th June 2023.

TRAVEL & ACCESSABILITY

The cruise terminal is accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

The venue is accessible by Car, Bus, Ferry and Train. The nearest train station: Tilbury Town. A special shuttle bus will operate over the weekend from Tilbury Town train station to the Terminal.

PHOTO/FILMING

We will be taking photographs and video recording this event to promote and celebrate the project in print and online. If you do not give consent to be photographed or filmed, please let a member of the EVEWRIGHT team know on the day.
